Basketball Recap: Flint River Academy Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Oak Mountain Academy came into Friday's matchup looking for another win against Flint River Academy, but D. J. Baums wouldn't allow it. The Flint River Academy Wildcats strolled past the Oak Mountain Academy Warriors with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 54-38 thanks in part to Baums, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot, having posted 11 or more boards the last six times he's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Riner, who posted eight points and 15 rebounds. He has become a key player for Flint River Academy: the team is 8-4 when he posts at least ten boards, but 1-2 otherwise.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Van Smith, who went 5 for 8 en route to 11 points. Those 11 points gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mads Koelling, who had seven points and five assists.

Flint River Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Oak Mountain Academy, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Flint River Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 72-31 loss against Windsor Academy on the 1st. As for Oak Mountain Academy, they will head out to take on Flint River Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
