Softball Recap: Warren Warriors vs. Eastern Eagles
Warren was the 15-9 winner over Eastern when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Warriors fell 9-6 to the Eagles on Friday.
Kyla Williams was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Marina Johnson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Emma Lang was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
Warren has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Eastern, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Warren and Eastern could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Warriors will face off against Meigs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (493 vs. 153). Meanwhile, Eastern (ranked 459th) will meet South Charleston (ranked 69th) at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
