Havelock and Jacksonville squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Havelock had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 56-28 loss at the hands of the Jacksonville Cardinals. The Rams' loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Havelock lost, don't look at Jonathan Williams. Despite the final result, he picked up 242 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Williams was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 66 yards. Jaylen Hewitt was another key player, having thrown for 444 yards and three touchdowns.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Demon June and Eric Griffin. June rushed for 252 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries while Griffin rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. With that strong performance, Griffin is now averaging an impressive 104.2 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Amare Dorsey, who rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.
Havelock's defeat dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Jacksonville, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Havelock does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jacksonville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 43-7 loss against Seventy-First on the 13th.
