Recap: Pinellas Park Patriots vs. Boca Ciega Pirates
The Pinellas Park Patriots lost against the Boca Ciega Pirates back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Pinellas Park was outmatched by Boca Ciega at home and fell 54-25. Pinellas Park has struggled against Boca Ciega recently, as their matchup on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Boca Ciega's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maliyah Byrd, who scored 26 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Byrd has scored at least 25% of Boca Ciega's points. Another player making a difference was JaLainah Hunt, who scored 16 points.
Pinellas Park's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Boca Ciega, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinellas Park will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on East Lake at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2024. As for Boca Ciega, they will head out on the road to face off against Dunedin at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Haylee Dones and Byrd.
