Michigan high school basketball phenom Emoni Bates and his teammates at Lincoln (Ypsilanti) open the postseason Monday against Pioneer (Ann Arbor).

Bates, a 6-foot-8 sophomore wing, is averaging 33.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Thanks to outbursts of 63 and 48 points, he's averaging over 40 points per game in his last five outings.

A year ago Bates was crowned MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year and appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in October 2019.

Lincoln, Michigan's defending Division 1 state champion, enters the contest with a 17-3 record while Pioneer is 12-8. The winner advances to meet Ypsilanti on Wednesday in the district semifinals.
