Softball Recap: Columbia Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Columbia dropped their record down to 7-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Liberty Christian Patriots. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Coyotes of the 7-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2019.

Taya Riner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Nancy Leahy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Liberty Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.

On Liberty Christian's side, Bella Rogel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Rogel has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Megan Butcher was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. Alana Lukins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Liberty Christian beat Columbia by a score of 9-2 later that day.
