Christ the King gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They blew past the Mt. St. Michael Academy Mountaineers 38-16. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Royals just coasted through the last quarter.

Isaiah Smith was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 51 yards. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Melvin Beltran, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Christ the King proved: they limited Mt. St. Michael Academy to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Auston Headley for the heroic effort on defense: he. Christ the King didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.2.

Christ the King didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut CJ Fernandez. Christ the King got some further help from Headley: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 14 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
