Softball Recap: Luther Cougars vs. Portledge Panthers
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Luther had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Portledge Panthers by a score of 11-8. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Luther.
Adrianna Pacheco was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Pacheco has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. Pacheco was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Luther got a massive performance out of Hailey Melio, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Serena Lopez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.
Luther's victory bumped their record up to 2-10. As for Portledge, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Luther will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Staten Island Academy at 3:45 p.m. Luther is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season. Portledge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
