Volleyball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Grosse Pointe South's Winning Streak

After flying high against L'Anse Creuse North on Wednesday, Grosse Pointe South came back down to earth. The Blue Devils fell 2-0 to the Lowell Red Arrows on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Devils of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Gabby DiVita paced Grosse Pointe South's offense, picking up 12 kills. DiVita got some help from Lucy Edwards and her 17 assists. DiVita was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Rylie Barriger was the offensive standout of the contest as she had 11 assists and six aces. That's the most aces she has posted since back in August of 2024.

The loss snapped Grosse Pointe South's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-6-1 record. As for Lowell, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3-1 record this season.

Grosse Pointe South wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Northview on the 20th. As for Lowell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against North Branch on the 20th.
