Softball Recap: Wellsville Tigers vs. Southern Indians
Wellsville extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 5-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Southern Indians. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Indians from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
As for Southern, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games.
For Southern's part, Addy Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Raelea Carosiello was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Makenna Jones was another key player, going 1-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wellsville will host Jefferson County Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southern, they will take on Beaver Local at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Beavers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
