Baseball Game Preview: Maranatha Christian Eagles vs. Bishop's Knights

The Maranatha Christian Eagles will face off against the Bishop's Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Bishop's took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Maranatha Christian, who comes in off a win.

Maranatha Christian took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Classical Academy, sneaking past 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since May 7, 2024.

Maranatha Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthias Hardy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave Hardy a new career-high. Cody Baltgalvis also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Bishop's good fortune finally ran out last Thursday. They fell just short of Valley Center by a score of 3-1. The game marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Henry Armstrong was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

Bishop's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4-1. As for Maranatha Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-14.

Maranatha Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Bishop's in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
