The Windsor Jaguars will head out to face off against the Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Windsor comes in on four and Cardinal Newman on six.
It was a proper cat-fight when Windsor challenged Analy on Thursday. The Jaguars walked away with a 10-5 win over the Tigers.
The team relied heavily on Demi Lagourgue, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Homan, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Windsor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman made easy work of Maria Carrillo on Thursday and carried off a 14-4 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Callie Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cardinal Newman got a big performance out of Mia Robinson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Cienna Alvarez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Cardinal Newman's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Windsor, their record is now 13-4.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Windsor hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. However, it's not like Cardinal Newman struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Windsor came up short against Cardinal Newman when the teams last played on April 10th, falling 8-3. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
