Softball Recap: Sulphur Beats South Beauregard for Their Seventh Straight Win

Sulphur came tearing into Tuesday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the South Beauregard Knights as they made off with a 10-2 win. Considering the Golden Tors have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Claire Mellard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Mariah Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Maliyah Navarre, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Sulphur hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.

Sulphur's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-11. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for South Beauregard, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-12.

Looking ahead, Sulphur will head out on the road to face off against Kaplan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something the Golden Tors surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Beauregard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Holy Savior Menard at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
