Baseball Recap: St. Petersburg's Run of Four Straight Victories Now Over

The home team had come away the winner the last six times St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. St. Petersburg fell just short of Pinellas Park by a score of 7-6 on Wednesday. If the Green Devils were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Patriots when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

St. Petersburg got a good showing from Ethan Bess, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Furthermore, Bess didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February.

On the hitting side, St. Petersburg saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave Smith a new career-high. Garett Perdek was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

With the loss, St. Petersburg broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-10-1. As for Pinellas Park, their record now sits at 7-11.

Looking ahead, St. Petersburg will welcome IMG Academy Silver at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. IMG Academy Silver's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so St. Petersburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pinellas Park, they will challenge East Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pinellas Park's pitchers better be ready for this one: East Lake has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
