Softball Recap: Ferguson Has No Trouble Against South Dade

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ferguson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the South Dade Buccaneers as they made off with a 19-13 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Ferguson got a great performance from Lily Berardinelli as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Andreaneliz Rivera was incredible, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Sarah Villanueva also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Ferguson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .551. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Ferguson and bumps their season record up to 11-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for South Dade, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season.

Ferguson and South Dade are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Falcons will be playing at home against Coral Gables at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Ferguson is facing the Cavaliers at the right time seeing as the Cavaliers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for South Dade, they will take on Palmetto on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.8 runs per game on average), something the Buccaneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
