This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For football, only 50 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 17,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Shamrocks ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
On Saturday, Dec. 3 the Trinity Shamrocks completed a historic season with a dominating 56-21 win over the Lafayette Generals for the 2016 KHSAA Class 6A state championship. Spencer Blackburn contributed six touchdowns in the win to cap the first perfect season since 2011.
This year's state title is head coach Bob Beatty's 12th football state title out of 14 appearances and the school's 24th overall — both are record highs in the state of Kentucky. To top that off, the Shamrocks became one of 16 schools in state history to hit the 600 wins mark with a cumulative program record of 600-160-7.
At the end of their season (15-0) the 6A District 4 and Class 6A state champions finished highly ranked by MaxPreps — No.1 in Class 6A, No.1 in the state, No.7 in the South Region, No.16 in the Xcellent 25 and No.21 in the nation.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Trinity Shamrocks an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the football team, coaching staff, students and fans on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. during halftime of the boys basketball game in the gym.
