Softball Game Preview: Jamestown Eagles vs. Smithfield Packers

Jamestown hasn't had much luck against Smithfield recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Eagles will take on the Packers at 4:30 p.m. Jamestown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Jamestown proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 12) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Grafton, sneaking past 4-2. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Tenley Medlin was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Grace Hughes was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Jamestown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Smithfield came up short against York on Wednesday and fell 15-11. The loss continues a trend for the Packers in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost three in a row.

Jamestown's record is now 12-6. As for Smithfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Jamestown beat Smithfield 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
