Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association's Third in Last Four Outings

Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Isle of Wight Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Patriots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Chargers an 8-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Sophia Peterson and Audrey Haywood made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Peterson tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Haywood didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Peterson went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Haywood went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Peterson has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Knicely, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Reagan Litchford, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Isle of Wight Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association will face off against St. Catherine's at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Isle of Wight Academy, they will take on Atlantic Shores Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
