Baseball Game Preview: Gridley Bulldogs vs. Kearny Komets

The Gridley Bulldogs will square off against the Kearny Komets at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Gridley took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Live Oak 12-1. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Garrett Francis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Tanner Abbott was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Luis Murillo was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Gridley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Live Oak only posted a batting average of .062.

Meanwhile, Kearny narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Sweetwater 3-2.

Kearny's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was DJ Martinez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Gridley's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.0 runs this season. As for Kearny, their record now sits at 2-6.
