Softball Game Preview: Shirley Blue Devils vs. Norfork Panthers

Shirley is a perfect 7-0 against Norfork since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will host the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Shirley has given up an average of 12 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Shirley is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 29 runs last Friday, they were much more limited against Calico Rock on Tuesday. They came up short against the Pirates, falling 11-1. The contest marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, Norfork got themselves on the board against Jasper on Monday, but Jasper never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 6-0 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Isabella Villarreal made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

Villarreal wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Macie Lindsey, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Lindsey has hit this season. Kinley Robertson was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Norfork's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Shirley, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Everything went Shirley's way against Norfork in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Shirley made off with a 32-14 victory. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
