Preview: Piedmont vs. Weatherford
Weatherford have had a week off and are no doubt ready to get back on the field. On Friday they take on Piedmont at 7:00 PM. If the 6-9 final from the last time they met is any indication, this contest will be decided by the defense.
Weatherford took care of business in their home opener. Everything went their way against Chisholm two weeks ago as they made off with a 35-14 win. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Weatherford had established a 27-6 advantage.
Meanwhile, Piedmont might have drawn first blood against El Reno last week, but it was El Reno who got the last laugh. Piedmont were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap, as they fell 27-33 to El Reno.
Weatherford's victory lifted them to 1-0 while Piedmont's loss dropped them down to 0-1. In their victory, Weatherford relied heavily on sophomore Ethan Downs, who rushed for 199 yards and 2 touchdowns; a key strategy for Piedmont will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
