Basketball Recap: Jay Ross' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brookhaven over Holmes County Central

It was a proper cat-fight when Brookhaven challenged Holmes County Central on Monday. The Brookhaven Panthers took a 56-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Holmes County Central Jaguars.

Brookhaven's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jay Ross, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 17 points along with six assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Ross a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarion Cooper, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Brookhaven smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Brookhaven's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Holmes County Central, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Brookhaven will challenge Provine at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brookhaven is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season. Holmes County Central has already played their next contest, a 51-48 victory against Cleveland Central on the 22nd.
