Softball Recap: Pocahontas County Warriors vs. Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders

Pocahontas County extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-6 in the process. They lost 14-5 to the Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-5 two weeks ago.

Charleigh Halterman and Kirsten Friel stepped up to the plate in a big way. Halterman went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Friel went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Hamrick, who earned one run and three stolen bases.

As for Greater Beckley Christian, their win bumped their record up to 6-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Greater Beckley Christian's side, Leah Adkins made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Adkins has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aislinn Pelfrey was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Charity Cochran, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Coming up, Pocahontas County will challenge Bath County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Greater Beckley Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
