By Thomas Frey Oct 20, 2025, 12:00pm

Undefeated rivals battle for state bragging rights.

The MaxPreps Game of the Week heads to Arizona as No. 18 Basha (Chandler) hosts rival Hamilton (Chandler). The neighboring schools are both undefeated (7-0) and occupy the top two spots in the state rankings.

Basha opened in 2002 and the series with Hamilton began in 2005 with the Huskies winning the first nine meetings. Since, Basha has won four of the past five including the last three.

Several of the matchups have been instant classics, including a 45-44 Basha double-overtime victory at Hamilton in 2023.

Basha is No. 18 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 and No. 1 in the state with key wins over Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.) and Brophy College Prep (Phoenix). The Bears haven't lost at home since 2023.

North Texas quarterback commit Brodie Vehrs and four-star running back Noah Roberts lead the Basha offense. Vehrs passed for two scores and ran for another in the 35-20 win over Hamilton last year. Roberts has scored rushing touchdowns against Hamilton in each of the last two seasons.

Up front, the Bears have a pair of four-star offensive linemen in Jake Hildebrand and DaJohn Yarborough. Basha defenders Dante Bruley and Eli Cramer-Cronin have had sacks in this rivalry.

Hamilton is ranked No. 52 in the expanded top 100 and No. 2 in the state. The Huskies have scored at least 49 points in every game this season including 70 against Brophy College Prep.

The offense is led by a pair of sophomores in three-star quarterback Jax Sculley and four-star wide receiver Roye Oliver III. Sculley has 35 touchdowns on the season and Oliver has been on the receiving end of 23 of them.

The Hamilton defense is led by twin brothers and senior Oklahoma commits Beau Jandreau and Niko Jandreau. Three-star junior Derrick LeBlanc Jr. leads the defensive line and had a sack against Basha last year.

The MaxPreps social media team will be on campus for Game of the Week to highlight top players, behind-the-scenes action and showcase what makes high school football special. Calling the game will be Jeff Kurtz alongside MaxPreps National Football Editor Zack Poff.
