Recap: Grace M. James Academy of Excellence GEMS vs. Holy Cross Cougars
After flying high against the Atherton Ravens last Tuesday, the Grace M. James Academy of Excellence GEMS came back down to earth. Grace M. James Academy of Excellence was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 44-43 to Holy Cross.
Despite the loss, Grace M. James Academy of Excellence saw an underclassman step up: Alicea Mangrum almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Mangrum pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Mosley, who scored ten points.
Grace M. James Academy of Excellence's defeat dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Holy Cross, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.
Grace M. James Academy of Excellence is on the road again on Thursday and plays Southern at 7:15 p.m. on February 15th. As for Holy Cross, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Fairdale at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Holy Cross is coming into the match with six straight wins at home, meaning Fairdale will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
