Softball Recap: Holderness Bulls vs. Proctor Academy Hornets

Holderness extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Proctor Academy Hornets. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Bulls' highest-scoring game to date.

As for Proctor Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games.

For Proctor Academy's part, Abbie Vlacich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. Vlacich has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Cade Wiley was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Dove, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Holderness will take on rival St. Paul's at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Proctor Academy is set to square off against their familiar foe New Hampton School at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
