Basketball Recap: Whiteville Takes a Loss

Whiteville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Lumberton Pirates, falling 72-29. The Wolfpack lost against the Pirates in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 58-47 score last time.

Lumberton was led to victory by Gabryell Locklear and Andrea Brown. Locklear went 8 of 10 en route to 23 points, while Brown dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Brown is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Another player making a difference was Charley Whitley, who posted ten points and eight assists.

Whiteville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Lumberton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.

Whiteville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 31-28 loss against Red Springs on the 18th. As for Lumberton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-50 defeat against St. Pauls on the 19th.
