Softball Game Preview: Forestview Jaguars vs. North Gaston Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Forestview Jaguars face off against North Gaston Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Forestview is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 20 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Palisades on Wednesday. They fell 6-2 to the Pumas.

Olivia Hensley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lily Cabe made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in doubles. Another player making a difference was Miley Skidmore, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Forestview hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palisades struck out 11 times.

Meanwhile, North Gaston scored first but ultimately less than Freedom in their contest on Wednesday. They lost 22-6 to the Patriots. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Skylar Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Layla Love was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-2.

Forestview's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for North Gaston, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

North Gaston's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Forestview has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for North Gaston, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Forestview's sizable advantage in that area, North Gaston will need to find a way to close that gap.
