It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Mount Vernon ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Winnsboro Raiders 7-6. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Mount Vernon let Wesley Salinas and Pierson Clayton run wild. Salinas scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Clayton scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jackson Gray, who went 3-for-5 with one triple and one RBI.

Mount Vernon's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Winnsboro, they now have a losing record of 6-7-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mount Vernon beat Winnsboro by a score of 11-8 on Friday.
