Baseball Recap: Kennedy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Johnson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kennedy). They put the hurt on the Johnson Warriors with a sharp 17-5 victory on Friday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Laney Fukuoka made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Diego Avalos-Daniels, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Oliver Parkinson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Kennedy and bumps their season record up to 3-6. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 12.5 hits in those games compared to only 5.29 in the others. As for Johnson, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Kennedy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 21-1 loss against Cosumnes Oaks on the 8th. As for Johnson, they will square off against Foothill at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Foothill has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
