Basketball Recap: Big Valley Comes Up Short

Big Valley played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Hayfork Timberjacks, falling 68-45. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Timberjacks: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Big Valley lost, don't look at Josue Barba. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 9 en route to 16 points in addition to eight assists and eight boards. Barba has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Juan Flores, who went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points.

Barba wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Big Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

It was another big night for Levi Cavalli, who posted 24 points along with eight rebounds and four steals for Hayfork. Anthony Bonelli was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards.

Big Valley's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5. As for Hayfork, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Big Valley will welcome Happy Camp at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hayfork, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Surprise Valley at 4:30 p.m. on January 25th.
