Softball Game Preview: Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack vs. Pleasant Grove Eagles

Cosumnes Oaks hasn't had much luck against Pleasant Grove recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Wolfpack will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m.

Elk Grove hit Cosumnes Oaks with a seven-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolfpack fell 8-5 to the Thundering Herd. The Wolfpack have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sarah Fleishman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 5-0 victory. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly five runs.

Madeline Lawson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Brozaitis, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shealynn Stinson, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Pleasant Grove's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cosumnes Oaks, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
