Basketball Game Preview: Hawkins Hawks vs. Martins Mill Mustangs

The Hawkins Hawks will square off against the Martins Mill Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Hawkins sitting on 17 straight victories and Martins Mill on 12.

On Tuesday, Hawkins strolled past McLeod with points to spare, taking the game 50-33. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while the Longhorns are ranked 1319th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Martins Mill over Cayuga in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Martins Mill blew Cayuga out of the water with an 86-24 final score. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 23 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Martins Mill's win came from a few key players Hawkins will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jak Kinder, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten boards. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least 23 points. Another player making a difference was Ryder Marsh, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Martins Mill pushed their record up to 31-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.5 points. As for Hawkins, their victory bumped their record up to 29-2.

Hawkins lost to Martins Mill on the road by a decisive 55-41 margin in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Can Hawkins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
