Football Game Preview: York Dukes vs. Northwest Vikings

The York Dukes will venture away from home to square off against the Northwest Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (York has three straight wins, Northwest has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

York is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Lincoln Northwest to the tune of 43-7 on Friday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-0.

Emmitt Dirks was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 147 yards and three TDs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Dax Peterson was another key player, picking up 104 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: York was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 220 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Northwest played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Seward 49-7. The Vikings were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-0.

York's record is now 4-2. As for Northwest, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

York couldn't quite finish off Northwest when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 10-7. Can the Dukes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
