Baseball Recap: West Marion Takes Down Franklin County in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, West Marion rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on the Franklin County Bulldogs with a sharp 13-1 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Trojans, who have now won four matches in a row.

Sam Smith looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has become a key player for West Marion: the team is 8-3 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Braxton Albritton was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Turnage, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

West Marion was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in five consecutive contests.

West Marion pushed their record up to 13-16 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Franklin County, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11.

West Marion will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:31 p.m. on Monday.
