Softball Recap: Evansville Reitz Takes a Loss

Evansville Reitz fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Jasper on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-4. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Ella Ellerbrook spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Evansville Reitz saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kinley Miller, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI. Alivia Westerfield also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Evansville Reitz's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Jasper, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Evansville Reitz will welcome Terre Haute South Vigo at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Panthers are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Jasper, they will head out to take on Daviess County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 2.4, the Panthers 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
