Baseball Game Preview: Milpitas Trojans vs. Homestead Mustangs

Milpitas is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Homestead a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Milpitas Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Homestead Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Milpitas has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Milpitas came up short against Mountain View on Friday, falling 11-2.

Milpitas saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Chavez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Ian Ostrander also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Homestead was able to grind out a solid win over Hillsdale on Saturday, taking the game 7-4.

Clay Bussey made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Andrew Sun was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Milpitas' defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Homestead, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
