Baseball Game Preview: Stansbury Stallions vs. Cottonwood Colts

For the second straight game, Stansbury will face off against Cottonwood. Stansbury will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Cottonwood at 3:30 p.m. Stansbury is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Stansbury and Cottonwood meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. Stansbury walked away with a 7-2 victory over Cottonwood.

Stansbury got a great performance from Nolan Furgal as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, Furgal gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Xaviah Patch, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Astill, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Stansbury was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cottonwood only posted a batting average of .231.

Stansbury pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cottonwood, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-2.

Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Stansbury hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Cottonwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
