Baseball Recap: Mishawaka Marian Takes a Loss

Mishawaka Marian extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-5 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Bend Saint Joseph Huskies. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by exactly two runs.

Cole Hundt was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has become a key player for Mishawaka Marian: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Ryne O'Hara made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Weber, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for South Bend Saint Joseph, they pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On South Bend Saint Joseph's side, Josh Dolniak looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Dolniak posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, South Bend Saint Joseph got a massive performance out of Brady Langager, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Joe Washburn, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mishawaka Marian will welcome Westview at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for South Bend Saint Joseph, they will take on Northridge at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
