Softball Game Preview: Cedar Ridge Raiders vs. Dripping Springs Tigers

For the second straight game, Cedar Ridge will face off against Dripping Springs. The Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cedar Ridge 1.8, Dripping Springs 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Cedar Ridge heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Thursday. They fell just short of Dripping Springs by a score of 4-3. The Raiders' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Caitlin Benningfield spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Taylor Phillips was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The victory was the seventh in a row for Dripping Springs, bringing their record up to 30-8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cedar Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 24-5.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Cedar Ridge hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Dripping Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs.
