Capital Prep is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on University with a sharp 86-66 win on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Trailblazers have posted since February 7, 2024.
Capital Prep found their leader in sophomore Syre Gillespie, who posted 52 points along with seven assists and five boards. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Gillespie has scored at least a third of Capital Prep's points. Another player making a difference was Javaris Spencer, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds.
Capital Prep was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Prince RVT, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 61-47 win over Norwich RVT on Tuesday. With that victory, the Falcons brought their scoring average up to 50.2 points per game.
Prince RVT had a senior duo take command as Cal Williams went 10-for-20 to rack up 24 points and four steals and Jordan Iverson dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 boards. Iverson's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmanuel Ikeh, who put up two points and eight rebounds.
Capital Prep's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-14. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points over those games. As for Prince RVT, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-17.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Capital Prep has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Prince RVT struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
