Soccer Game Preview: Madison Academy vs. St. John Paul II

Madison Academy is 2-7 against St. John Paul II since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

St. John Paul II will be up against a hot Madison Academy squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Mustangs' defense stepped up to hand Elkmont a 5-0 shutout on Friday.

Meanwhile, St. John Paul II waltzed into their game on Wednesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Wildcats. Given St. John Paul II's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama soccer rankings (they are ranked 17th, while West Limestone are ranked 146th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. John Paul II's offense was hitting West Limestone from everywhere, as seven different players booted in a goal. Demi Songy led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

St. John Paul II's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four matches. As for Madison Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3-1.

Madison Academy might still be hurting after the 5-2 loss they got from St. John Paul II in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
