Preview: Pueblo Warriors vs. Sabino Sabercats

The Pueblo Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Sabino Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pueblo is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Pueblo's 20-9 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell just short of Amphitheater by a score of 52-50.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jorge Franco, who scored ten points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was David Hernandez, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Sabino's 12-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 66-47 victory over Tanque Verde. That 66-47 margin sets a new team best for Sabino this season.

Cameron Hackworth continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with seven assists and seven steals. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for him. Shamar Berryhill was another key contributor, scoring ten points.

Pueblo has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Sabino, their win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-11.

Thursday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Pueblo have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Sabino, though, as they've been averaging only 22.3 rebounds per game. Given Pueblo's sizeable advantage in that area, Sabino will need to find a way to close that gap.

Pueblo and Sabino were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, but Pueblo came up empty-handed after a 65-64 loss. Thankfully for Pueblo, Carson Moore (who scored 23 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
