The biggest upset of the week belonged to Canton, who took down 86th ranked Callaway, 14-8.
Provine was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 5A Region 2. The Rams beat Lanier 38-0 earlier in the week.
Starkville's dynamic duo of Gabe Myles and Kentrell Spencer proved tough for Yazoo City to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Myles threw for 155 yards and three touchdowns and Spencer had 60 yards receiving. Darius Grayer helped Starkville's passing attack out by catching one ball for 31 yards.
Gary Adams was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 124 yards on 27 carries as Ridgeland bested the Indians. Teammate Parker Lohman added to the ground attack by rushing for 63 yards.
5-foot-10 quarterback DeJuan Ellis of Provine is the league leader in passing yards this season with 888. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, the Titans' Adams has rushed for 921 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dayall Harris. The Callaway star has 25 catches for 424 yards.
Ridgeland's Adams is a mere 79 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in 5A Region 2 this week will be when Starkville takes on the Chargers. The Yellowjackets are in first place, while Callaway is in fourth place.
There should be lots of points scored when Starkville and Daryl Jones' team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Yellowjackets comes in having scored 248 this season, while the Chargers have scored 212. Starkville scored 46 points last week as it topped Tony Woolfolk's team.
The Tigers moved up to 120 from 148 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Canton climbed the ranks as a result of beating Callaway 14-8.
