Baseball Recap: Central's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

After flying high against Westwood last Friday, Central came back down to earth. The Cobras fell just short of the Sebring Blue Streaks by a score of 6-5 on Monday. The Cobras' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Justin Glickman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Timothy Stevens made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyleb Phinizee, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Central's loss dropped their record down to 11-8-1. As for Sebring, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Central and Sebring should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Cobras will challenge Sebastian River at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (219 vs. 459). Meanwhile, Sebring (ranked 54th) will meet Clewiston (ranked 291st) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Streaks 1.8, the Tigers 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
