Baseball Recap: Akron Comes Up Short

Akron extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-4. They came up short against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, falling 10-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 7-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Notre Dame, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

For Notre Dame's part, Evan Fitzpatrick made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave Fitzpatrick a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Antinore, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Drew Beachel, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Akron will square off against Oakfield-Alabama at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Notre Dame, they will challenge Northstar Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
