Basketball Recap: Angelina Whelan Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Walden Grove

Rio Rico's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Walden Grove Red Wolves by a score of 50-43. The Hawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Red Wolves, too.

Rio Rico's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angelina Whelan led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. Whelan is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Addison Hix was another key player, going 6 for 11 on her way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Rio Rico smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Rio Rico's record now sits at 9-5. As for Walden Grove, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.
