Football Recap: Manti Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Manti had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 51-45 to the Pine View Panthers. The Templars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Manti lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Carter Mason, who threw for 442 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.1% of his passes, and also rushed for 66 yards. Manti's leading receiver Stone Mortensen was Mason's top target yet again, picking up 254 receiving yards and three TDs.

Levi Shaw was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 417 yards while picking up 13.0 yards per attempt. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in August of 2024.

Looking ahead, Manti will square off against Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pine View, they will take on Cedar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,117 yards in their previous games.
