Baseball Recap: Russell Takes a Loss

Russell came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Larned Indians by a score of 8-6 on Tuesday. The Broncos just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Wyatt Griffin and Pierce Schoenberger were huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, Griffin didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Schoenberger pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Griffin has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Griffin went 2-for-3 with one run and one double, while Schoenberger went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Thielen, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Russell's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Larned, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Russell beat Larned by a score of 7-4 later that day.
