Baseball Recap: White Station Triumphs

White Station proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 16) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Harding Academy Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since March 18th.

Benjamin Mendez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Mendez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Walter, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

White Station hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harding Academy struck out nine times.

White Station's win bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Harding Academy, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Coming up, White Station will venture away from home to take on Whitehaven at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.17 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Harding Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against First Assembly Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
